Imagine navigating a stormy sea without a compass. Just as challenging, is trying to lead a team towards success without comprehending the values that shape their actions and decisions. Values are the hidden gravity that holds your team together and are pivotal for steering your company's progress. When you don’t know your team’s values, this can be considered a “values gap.”


Discovering and understanding your team's values is not just a leadership responsibility, it's the cornerstone for sustained success. A leader who fails to recognize the values gap between themselves and their team might find himself navigating a ship that's destined to sink. Shared values are the unifying force that moulds individuals into a cohesive unit; functioning with purpose, and supporting each other in achieving common goals. Ignoring them may lead to misunderstandings, lack of trust, and ultimately stagnation or failure.


A leader who does not know his team’s values risks creating an environment where employees feel unappreciated and their work undervalued. This can lead to decreased morale, lower productivity levels, and higher turnover rates - all factors which contribute negatively to success. It is absolutely vital for leaders to understand their team’s values so they can create an inclusive atmosphere where everyone feels valued. Without this knowledge, any strategy or plan will be launched into stormy seas at best and may sink at worst.
